Twitter and Musk

This is quite right. Musk got caught up in the talking points of free speech on social media and forgot Twitter is an actual user based service business. Now he has way too much money tied up in this blunder and is flailing around trying to figure out how to stay afloat and his solution is to charge the content creators that attract the users that create the value.

Facebook made the same mistake. They were worried too much about the charade that “free speech” is actually allowing idiots to spread false information and lies they allowed their platform to become unattractive.

At least this is an idea that has been proven to be a money-maker. Just check out how OnlyFans is doing.
But does Musk really want Twitter to be a porn platform?

Twitter Exploring 'Paywalled Video' Which Would Obviously Be Flooded With Porn
Elon Musk has been desperately looking for ways to make Twitter profitable after paying $44 billion for the site.

This would be a good move given twitter lets performers post adult content on the platform already. Offering a premium onlyfans-like service to cyberpimp and peddle smut to incel, sexless, misogynist right wingers would definitely be a monied move if he can offer some content ownership protections.

I think you guys give Musk way too much credit with some strategy or crusade on free speech, etc. The man is a gigantic egoist, loves the limelight and this is just the latest example of him being able to put himself on the lips of everyone, everywhere while we all speculate what will happen and what will befall him. Just like everyone did with Tesla.

While the U.S may not have clear government regulations on hate speech and disinformation on social media --- the EU does. And they back it up via huge fines. The type of fines which can put a company out of business.

The EU would like Musk to know that the are quite ready to apply the fines if he scales back proper moderation on Twitter.

Top European official: if Twitter ignores the law, penalties will 'haunt' Elon Musk

EU official warns Musk he'll have to 'fly by our rules' as he buys Twitter
https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2022/10/28...e-to-fly-by-our-rules-as-he-buys-twitter.html

"Under the European Union's recently approved Digital Services Act, large tech companies will be required to have robust content moderation systems to ensure they can quickly take down illegal material such as hate speech, incitement to terrorism and child sexual abuse."

Musk already said many times that he has no intention to violate laws, rules, and regulations. So, these warnings are just a crap shoot. Thank you for sharing this crap shoot with us. It feels like you main job.

Don’t underestimate Meta. Yes the “virtual world” is stupid bullshit for gamers and dweebs but he is also building virtual computing and that ain’t no joke. Once you understand that machine or phone you’re using today full of chips and processors will some day be a simple terminal to the “meta verse” or whatever it will become then you’ll get it.

Would I invest in Meta today, no. Will they come roaring back - yep.

This is where Meta is going… virtual computing. Phones and computers will become simple terminals and your computing etc will all be virtual.

So what's the business advantage? How does it make anyone more productive?

Well theoretically it’s more cost effective to not have to make large investments in hardware. It is also much more convenient for the workforce that is office optional. And lastly, for the big stuff it’s theoretically as much computing power as you can handle. Oh and no server maintenance and build costs.

Most corporate applications are already hosted on the cloud already -- whether it is WebEx for video conferencing, online MS Outlook for email, Whiteboard collaboration software, or applications used to drive sales like Salesforce. Amazon (AWS), IBM and others provide cloud offerings for your "hardware". Banks, insurance companies, and other firms nearly have no on-premise server hardware anymore. They have their custom applications hosted in cloud infrastructure.

Adding an additional "Metaverse" layer to make it a virtual world with kludgy avatars adds no value -- in fact it causes another layer of distraction and reduction of actual human connection.
