I will say this, I grew up with actual bombs and shootings and knee cappings, disappearances and everything else. And we were white, highly educated, productive people and did not understand how to stop it as it had gone too far . I was kept going by men who were very much like Pointy.

I'm all for reconciliation but it can't be done under some circumstances, it is particularly hard when the grievances are imaginary as the other guy can't say ok, I did that because he did not. This is what Trump and Poindexters (variants) do.

This may be too tangential but hey. As a kid in Ireland when I was nine I went to the beach with my brother (back when kids just cycled miles from home alone) and while my brother was sea swimming I ran into a "suicide" in the dunes. A lad of 19 was propped up against a wall of sand, somehow still sitting on his ten-speed racer with both wrists cut and bled out.
I noticed there were slight remains of footprints around him. It seemed to me someone had found this before me and I guessed was off calling the police.
Well, it was all kept from me by the adults. I never forgot the scene, still can't despite it should have paled to nothing from what I've seen as an adult but I was a kid. I did not forget the footprints and eventually got to the truth when I was about 16. The kid (to me now) was however buried in the church which as a suicide should have been problematic to say the least in Catholic Ireland at the time. There were still remnants of Madelaine laundries about for unmarried mothers. That inconsistency got me an answer from an adult.
The boy was killed and it made to look like a suicide to put (extra special) pressure on an IRA member in the UK to come back for his brother's funeral so other IRA guys could kill him. And if he did not, it was due punishment anyway. Some bad blood between the old and a new faction of the IRA. The ruse of the "suicide" was only meant to last a few days to trap the older brother.
The man who ordered the killing was more like Trump than you can imagine. In his tactics, always just surviving scraps and traps of the security forces and internal squabbles through shade and sometimes blood everything became permissible.
