That is the difference between you and me. The scenario. You take your optimal and I take my optimal.
  • trip to airport and boarding 2:30 hours
  • flight 1:35 hours
  • waiting/pickup luggage 0:30 hours
  • pick up rented car 1:00 hours
  • drive to destination 1:30 hours
total time: 7:05 hours

With car 8 hours.

Luggage:
  • in plane max 23 kg per person
  • in car can take 500kg
Free to leave and go back when you wish:
  • not with plane as you should book in time to have a seat
  • with car go when you wish

On top of that:
  • flights cancelled (happened already)
  • flights delayed (happened already)
  • flights overbooked (happened already)
My busiest years was 55 flights in 1 year, so I have a fairly good idea when to fly and when to take my car. Distance is not the only criteria.

Your worst case, it won't work for you, we've accepted that move on, 300miles Tesla would work for me easily but $100K+ doesn't, 60miles on a Nissan Leaf I'd need more 2 or 3 days per week useless, £30K GBP also too much.

Get Tesla's say even 150mile range down to normal car of that size prices and we'll all have them, but then the power grid would be overloaded, can't really win.
 
back on topic : despite being a fan/owner..one would be intellectually dishonest to dismiss TSLA can easily go broke or need a white knight.

no, if we had many more EV the electric grid would not be overwhelmed. you can do your own review if inclined; but i do feel bad for the ignorance.

i say, to each their own..but one can see with EV growth the silent buyers outnumber the complainers.

About this post and the one earlier from Baron, i drive a model X 75 with a bunch of options, very comfortable, looks nice, powerful enough especially since the increase of power released a while back by Tesla for the X75 (needed to go the tesla service center for that, might be as nervous as a 90 now, read several times the batteries are actually the same) and never have to use an outside charger as the individual charger at home is enough for one driving short distance.

But... I can't even drive 50% of the advertised distance in moderate urban traffic (well, what we call moderate over here...), have no idea how Baron can go from point A to B without using the steering wheel - better system possibly in the US although i definitely paid the highest offered self driving option- I can't even get the line changing to work properly, and haven't noticed the possibility to have the car follow an itinerary nor change roads by itself. Mobile app was fun but since changing mobile phone the system is no longer recognizing my email... so no more mobile app.

Happy with his car anyway, especially that over here Tesla offers the imported cars with the smallest price difference with the US. Of all options just happy about the interior ones, could have saved around 15 k on others - i'd feel a bit stupid to drive a Tesla without the auto drive but hardly ever use it.

Lots of Tesla around here, I guess the smallest S without option goes for around 100k, I never checked the books closely but the brand doesn't look like a fluke (still shorted it a couple of times with a small position)
