TS6 Downtime

be assured, what i wrote is true.
to make u understand i know about connections, let me tell you
im sw-developer/network manager.
i know exactly how to recognize, i am down or someone else.
i tried to ping ts, i tried to ping microsoft(my favorite in testing conection) and different ohters.
and as long as i reach ts-website and not ts-servers, there is a break somewhere.
the cases i described have really been. and im still a satisfied client of ts.
if you didnt have such probs, it surely could be another reason for the downtimes.
and u are right. i will contact them

i did not tell you that i trade from 2 locations:
1: my office
2.: my home
my office is in another town than my private location.
and the disconnection effects in both towns.
just to add some stuff.

Have been trading stocks with TS6 since 4/15 with no problems once logged on. Several times it would take a few tries to connect up to their server but once connected and logged on, it was fine.
The only problem I have with TS6 is more a limitation of my RAM (384M). I find that if I have more than 4 workspaces open, performance is considerably degraded. As I close up workspaces and free up RAM, performance improves. For now, until I upgrade my system, I use only 1 or 2 workspaces and the performance is very good.

Are you sure it's RAM and not memory allocation? If you're not using WIN2k Pro or (I believe) Windows XP, then more RAM won't help much. WIN 98 especially is very inefficient.
i have used ts6 with winnt 4.0, 192 ram. (with a 300 pII)
no probs in handling 3 workspaces, all about 10 charts open.
now i have xp-home, 256 ram, 1.8 gh. (for about 2 weeks)
still use same workspaces, no really improvement to see.(with ts6)
but my system was always cleaned up by me, always taken care, not to install all the sh... what is offered to improve system or s.th. else.
(and often do a defragment, otherwise your disk has hard work to do)
best improvment is to take a traders ws as traders ws and not as a onlineshopping-one.
to be honest:
xp , and new pc boot much faster than before, but ts6 did not really change in behaviour.
but there was no reason to change for ts6. it just needs some free mem, and a lot of free disk space

I've occasionally had to switch to 56k (actually somewhat less) when having DSL problems: The results were better than I expected, though things seemed slower - quotes dragging themselves on to L2, etc. - but that's just a subjective impression, based on a handful of observations, and the backbone or ISP problems that screwed up my DSL may in some instances also have affected the dial-up connection. On the other hand, I don't recall that I was using my full set-up - which is usually ten to twenty+ workspaces, each with around six or seven charts in multiple time frames, plus numerous L2 windows, and with diverse signal/indicator templates. Normally, I observe no lags of note, except during systemwide disturbances.
I have a PII 333mhz machine with Win95 (yikes !) with a cable modem, 384M Ram, and about .5 gig free disk space. As I open up TS6 workspaces I periodically check available Ram (Settings/Control Panel/system/performace.) With each workspace I open, the available Ram drops down. By the time I open the 5th workspace, the available ram is almost down to 0 and I get a warning message saying that some programs may not run properly. The only other thing I have open is IE browser.
If there is a way for TS6 not to gobble up Ram (with Win95) please let me know. I know that when I upgrade my system I'll probably go with at least 1G ram and Win2000Pro. In the meantime, I am getting by with my "clunker" and it seems to meet my immediate needs.

384 Ram is quite sufficient for Win95/98; the problem is likely your overloaded hard drive. When windows runs out of memory it resorts to swapping the data it has on the RAM to the hard drive to a place called the swap file. This allows machines with minimal RAM to still operate. But in your case you have no hard drive space to swap to.
Delete as much as you can off of your hard drive or add a second drive. Your goal is to keep your hard drive at the 50% level anything above that and you start to take a performance hit.
The best thing you can do is add a second hard drive and move the swap file onto the new drive. This will really wake up your tired old machine. The benefit of a second drive is your processor can now dump and load data simultaneously where before it could only do one at a time. This trick will cut the swap time in half.
And of course an operating system upgrade would be well worth the trouble, Windows 2000 should do fine with your processor and RAM and with the dual hard drive swap file trick you should have a very stable somewhat snappy computer for no more money than a hard drive.
Here is an old page I found that will show you how to set your swap file to a permanent size this will also improve performance. While your there this is where you can tell Windows that you want to move the swap file to the new drive.
