Trying to use a 37" LCD as a single monitor

I wondered what it would be like sitting about 2 feet away (in my case anyway, as most do not sit 6 feet away from their monitors) from a 37" LCD? Wouldn't it be like sitting in front of a 37" TV all day if your trading style requires you too? Too much glare? Too much eye strain?

Like to hear people who have experience. Maybe you are better off with 2-3 19" LCD spanning across in front of you?

Yes, it would be exactly like sitting 2 ft from the TV. Glare wouldn't necessarily be a problem, but you'd probably have eye strain. Your eyes/brain would be trying to focus the rough image from large pixels.

Accept this.... TVs do not make good monitors. Monitors are designed to be viewed from 2 ft, or so... TVs from 6-10 ft or more.

The best compromise in monitor/TV combo starts with 24" monitors.

3x, 19", monitors makes a very fine Extended Desktop for charts.... I've had that for my MetaStock for years.

Just like a 21 inch TV is too close at 3 ft, coz you try to see the whole picture, rite? But I guess it would be different with an monitor since you are trying to get info form a chart maybe half the screen etc?

Not "half the screen" but rather the pixels on a TV are too large for your eyes to focus upon from a short viewing distance.

Friend does AutoCAD a lot, he just got an extra VGA cord to try to use CAD with a 37 inch TV in the living room, let's see how it goes, if it is good, then why not for securities charting?

That's what I thought as regards to a 37" LCD.

Of course, one can set up his trading gig in such that a way that he reclines on his couch moving his mouse and typing on his keyboard with his oversized LCD's several feet away. That would give rise to the term "couch potato trader.":)

The I think SD should be OK, with the monitor is on the wall instead of on the desk? Might need a rather dark room to do this?

Would be good if your trading room is big enough..

Acturally what do institutional traders use? Do they have mighty big projection on the wall for major index? (again, NASA control room type shit, LOL)

Would be lame for an private trader rite? :D
