Truncated Posts

FxForex:

After some testing. The (') in strategy's is causing the message to truncate. Perhaps a character translation problem. I did notice (from my end anyway) that there was a couple of character translation errors in my journal title once the upgrade had been completed.

Yeah, that's what it is. Those special MS Word characters are not going to translate over. Much of that has to do with the fact that our upgraded web software has gotten much more strict about how non-standard characters are accepted, probably due to security concerns.

If you want to use a text editor to initially create your post before pasting it in, you are much better off using a plain text editor like notepad. Just guessing, I bet if you pasted the text from MS word into notepad, and then copied that and pasted it into your post, it will probably post without truncating.

Unfortunately, the error is not confined to MS Word. Notebook produces the same error. Even a simple copy and paste from the browser using Fxforex's posting of the text truncates at the same ('). The quote feature in general doesn't work and hangs on the (;) and returns a message of [The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters.].

I and several others are still having our posts truncated. I notice you seem to think earlier complaints had something to do with the text editor they were using.
Only I'm not using any editor. Unless you count the spell checker in FireFox. Most of the truncated posts seem to be copy/paste from other web sites. The longer the copy the more likely the truncation.

For now when it happens I edit the post and re-paste which does work.

So I hit the Back key, copied the whole thing -- what I had selected from the original post along with my reply -- and pasted the whole thing back into the window, and it came out fine.

This does not, as I originally thought, have anything to do with punctuation. There are here, for example, three periods after "it", but there are also two and a comma after "Btw" which post fine. It's not the result of a choice or of a selection. It's a software glitch. This has never happened to me before on any other website, including those who use similar software.

All this took place within ET. Neither Word nor Notepad nor any other editor was involved. Nor was it copied and pasted from an external source. Just Quote, respond, and Submit Reply.

Still doing it.

When I first submitted this post -- http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showpost.php?p=3941564&postcount=280 -- the new software ended it at the first apostrophe. By now, I've learned to copy the posts before hitting Submit Reply, so I pasted it and tried again. Still no go. Finally, the fourth time, the post posted. So I suppose one can get past this hurdle if one just keeps trying, which makes it an even more peculiar characteristic of the software.

FYI

Moral? When posting stuff like this, copy it all to your clipboard before hitting Submit Reply.
