Trump’s Personal Driver Sues for Unpaid Overtime

“Donald Trump’s personal driver for more than 25 years says the billionaire real estate developer didn’t pay him overtime and raised his salary twice in 15 years, clawing back the second raise by cutting off his health benefits,” Bloomberg reports.

Blue collar hero that Trump. Health benefits.. he has no compunction about removing those, even from his own nephew's disabled infant child.

I guess he likes having someone close to him like a driver under his thumb, he enjoys inflicting suffering so needs to actually see his victim 'kiss the ring' for kicks.

*He worked as long as 55 hours per week, but was paid a fixed salary of $62,700 in 2003, $68,000 in 2006, and $75,000 in 2010, according to the complaint.

The wage bump in 2010 came with a catch, Cintron said. He was induced to surrender his health insurance, saving Trump approximately $17,866 per year in premiums.*

Wow. A $7000 "raise" resulted in over $10,000 net benefit to Trump at the cost of this man's health insurance. Class fucking act.

Again, showing that trump is truly loved by all who actually know him. /s

The average salary nationally for a chauffeur is $27,480 per year.
The average salary in the State of NY for a chauffeur is $34,470 per year.
The top 10% of chauffeurs in the state of NY made an average of $51,150 per year.

It looks like a salary of $75K per year would've put this employee in the top 2-3% of the country in salary. Trump should pay him if he's owed anything by contract, but it seems like he already paid him quite well.

Manhattan is a very different matter to the whole state of NY. And is he a trained bodyguard/defensive driver?

"Chauffeurs" include ordinary limo drivers there so apples and oranges to the private driver of a high profile asshole.

Plus you have not adjusted for the extra hours worked.. why did you not adjust for that? You understand how a fixed salary vs hours worked pay works?

According to google, taxicab drivers and chauffeurs are exempt from overtime laws in the state of New York. The article says that he was paid a fixed salary. So unless he was contracted to be paid at an hourly wage, the extra hours don't matter.

If you adjust for the the extra hours, the top 10% in the state of New York make just over $70K per year. My main point was that he was paid in the top 2-3% in the country regardless of how many hours he worked.

The article is lacking a lot of pertinent information. Trump should pay every single penny he's contractually obligated to pay.

You can't Trump bash effectively when you report all the facts.

Yes he should pay what he owes however the extra hours do matter as nobody signs a contract for unlimited hours.

Regardless he thinks he has a case which will proceed or settle and is another who has experienced Trump up close and personal who has no loyalty to him. My late wife's mother is a wealthy defense industry bod and has all the warmth of a crocodile. However her staff are loyal as she is a very consistent person. Trump's tantrums and lashing out behavior have a cost.
