Actually, this is true.
Back in the day, the NY Post used to be a somewhat-respectable newspaper. They were one of the first to start publishing 4-color prints on their front page. But because they kept losing so much subscriber base to the NYT, WSJ and NY Newsday, since their writing staff was stupid and didn't know how to write a proper news piece, they went the tabloid route.
The NY Post is right up there with The Sun (which by the way, has started going in the OTHER direction, surprisingly.)
