The entire thing is a smokescreen of absurdity.
Even if it were true that the FBI cannot access an iphone running ios 8 or later it certainly does *not* imply that the US government cannot access an iphone configured similarly.
If there is anyone here who believes that the NSA cannot access an iphone running ios 8 or later please raise your hand.
Its baked in from the beginning. Every commercially available encryption schema on the planet is completely back-doored from the moment it is conceived by commercial arrangement or by clandestine arrangement or a combination of both. If you think Apple has some special encryption that the professionals at Ft. Meade cannot penetrate you need to consider that their *real* mission is penetrating military-grade encryption which they do all day every day with relative ease.
The commercial stuff is all a slam dunk lol.
They must be laughing their asses off over there.
Modern encryption algorithms have become difficult to crack, including the algorithms used by commercial products such as WhatsUp. Several of the apps with encrypted messaging have been used by terrorists for communication (e.g. before the Paris attacks) and are virtually uncrackable for small numbers of messages.
The way most spy agencies would go about getting information off a locked smart phone involves taking the phone apart and removing the flash chip which holds the data. They would at this point be able to attempt codes as many times as they like to decrypt the data without danger of erasing it.
