Trump Vows to Put CEOs to Work Restoring US Manufacturing

Because it's not about the oil. It's about the people. Could have just as easily been a marshmellow factory.

Well then that's just idiotic. If you're going to create jobs simply for the sake of creating jobs then build renewable energy, we'll be far better of over the long run, in terms of energy independence, decrease in price volatility, and lack of pollution, both planned and unplanned (when's the last time we suffered a solar panel spill?).

Again we don't anticipate needing substantially more ethane, for example, tomorrow or even in 30 years. We have plenty of capacity to create what we need now and in the future. I know a bit about ethane as well, and the Saudi price advantage comes pretty much exclusively from their feed stock price, not some super efficient new refineries, just like they have a price advantage in any petrochemical endeavor by virtue of having the cheapest to extract petroleum. After sinking 45,000 jobs into new refineries, the U.S. will be in no better position to compete with the Saudi's in that particular endeavor. They will have a glut of refining capacity, that's all.

Yes. Saudi price advantage comes from feedstock. Despite some of the cheapest natural gas in the world, chemicals derived from those feedstocks are still more expensive here than what you can buy in china. It's not because of labor.

While the political part of this whole thread is stupid (creating jobs and Trump taking credit for it), the plans to build this refinery were started years ago as fracking proved to be a potential game changer. That's not necessarily stupid.

Oil is just a word for energy. Agree, USA wants to be energy independent. Any geographic area the size of USA should be energy independent. Something as important as energy you make yourself.
