Trump administration rule could end free school lunches for about 500,000 children

About a half-million students could lose access to free school meals under a Trump administration proposal to limit the number of people who qualify for food stamps, drawing protests from congressional Democrats who say it could harm needy schoolchildren.

The change, proposed over the summer, would cut an estimated 3 million people from the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program. It is intended to eliminate eligibility for people who get food stamps because they have qualified for other forms of government aid, even though they may have savings or other assets.

But the impact of the cuts is anticipated to go further: Children in those households could also lose access to free school lunches, since food stamp eligibility is one way students can qualify for the lunches.

Kroger Mayo (enough for weeks)... $1.89/jar
2 lbs of those baby carrots are $1.39.
Egg sandwiches.....
Pasta... $1/lb
Potato salad.
Fresh seedless grapes... $.89 (in season) but there's always some fruit on sale.

I can go on and on here. Don't try this blame shifting crap. Their parents suck. Period.

i grew up poor, so ditto. I also appreciated the free lunch at school, as did my working stiff parents.

And had those lunches not been made available... I suspect somehow they'd have figured it out. You wouldn't have starved, and in all honesty, you'd have probably got better nutrition. That stuff is all crap anyway. In a big way.

it's free calories, it saved us money. I was lucky to have working parents, some of my peers weren't so lucky. They had single moms that worked for slightly above minimum wage.

The city would've been better off with access to decent birth control or access to abortion, but we know how that goes in inner cities ran by republicans.

I'll never understand why birth control pills aren't passed out like candy. It makes so much sense. Spend pennies to save 10's of thousands. So many kids that'll never have a chance. With or without free lunches. And the cycle never ends.

But you said poor families all smoke weed and drink booze so you believe that is factual it must apply to your family as well. Otherwise you are just making that up. Seems a pretty bold blanket statement to make. All poor families smoke weed so maybe you were getting contact highs all through elementary school and you don't remember.
