Hasn’t worked. The Iranian exportation of terrorism and physical footprint into neighbors like Syria and Iraq and Lebanon has expanded tremendously since the 2015 deal. They are bad actors.
I like Henry Kissinger’s explanation: ‘that Iran does not conduct themselves like a nation-state, they conduct themselves as a revolutionary cause’. In other words, there’s no ‘bringing that into Western orbit’ to borrow your phrase.
So I choose to believe that Iran is not a nation-state but it is in fact an Islamic revolutionary terrorist group. I seem to recall something about ‘death to all infidel non-believers’ and ‘death to America’ and ‘death to Israel’ being official Iranian policy.

Then you will realize how many things in America are at the very bottom of the food chain. Think American air travel, banking, payment services, tax filings, medical cost, ... to get your cells going...

Shale drilling is already having a horrendous environmental impact. America is light years away from relying on renewable energy sources. America is one of the least safe countries among all industrialized nations. The worst air travel in the world must be happening in America. A country split by a cultural and ideological war, potentially worse than the Civil War.
