Trump Tax Reform - a total squeeze on middle class W2 workers

Trump was very clear that his tax plan would be a version of trickle down economics.

His base was more interested in keeping brown people out, they didn't notice.
I think this tax cut experiment will be really quite something. And Trump is going to own it...

Wasn't he supposed to make it simple and make it so that we were only going to file taxes on a piece of paper or two instead of dozens hundreds and thousands by simplifying the tax code?? Is he getting to that soon or ?

According to Ryan and Brady (who are...... mildly, reliable), it's part of this proposal.

In 2004 California implemented a program called ReadyReturn where they calculated your state taxes for you, and if you liked their calculation, you simply had to sign the form and pay the tax. If you didn't like their calculations, you could go back to using the old state forms. They did a test with 11,000 Californians and 98% liked it. A year later the program was killed, because Intuit, the TurboTax people, lobbied heavily against it.

The moral of the story is don't for a second think that the politicians are interested in making your taxes easier. Ever bit of complication in the tax code is there to benefit some party, and the overall complication itself benefits CPAs and tax lawyers.

Everyone on both sides of the aisle knows the right answer -- flat rate of ≈15% on all forms of income, so there's no incentive for shell games, paid for by a rise in SS recipient age to ≈80, to adjust for increased life expectancy since the 1930s. But of course this is all politically impossible.

Of course. The only fair and Constitutional way to levy income tax is as a "flat tax". If there is to be a "low income" exemption... say, $30-$40K, EVERYBODY GETS IT! Amounts above the exempt level is flat rate... same for everyone.

Progressive tax rates are a tool of power and control... government ain't giving that up for the sake of "fairness".

:(

Speaking of "Fairness In Taxation"...

We all know it's a CRIME to discriminate against others on the basis of religion, color, ethnicity, race, sexual preference, gender, and who knows WTF else... even WEIGHT! But it's OK to discriminate against INCOME! And yet nobody bitches. Tsk, tsk.

Why is that? Ever give it any thought??

you can change your income: don't like being discriminated against, stop working; problem solved.

you can't change your skin color or sexual preference.

edit: [add] or any of the other things

Stupid argument!

So stupid, in fact, that's enough for you... on the very first post you've made that I've recognized... to make my ON IGNORE list!

Standard deduction big bump +++++

I'd like them to completely repeal home mortgage deductions

All that does is jack up the price of houses
Wow we actually agree on something.
The mortgage interest deduction is like federally subsidized student loans: both are social engineering programs that create artificial inflation.
