The physicians commentary says:
"Regarding the use of azithromycin, I postulate it prevents secondary bacterial infections."
Just to make a minor or possibly an important point, I will say that azithromycin is a bit of an oddball for an antibiotic in that it has been shown to have both antiviral and antibiotic characteristics- so it may be working on both the primary viral infection as well as protecting against secondary bacterial infections- as the doctor alludes to.
So those who advocate the z pack regimen are somewhat adamant that you cannot just switch in another type of antibiotic with the idea that it probably will work as well as azithro if azithro is not available. It may or may not. I dunno. Just sayin that azithro is alleged to also have antiviral properties- not just antibacterial. It's part of the three-legged stool along with hydroxy and zinc.

Also, he says that there have been side effects of "nausea and diarrhea" but I am not sure he knows that they are side effects of the treatment or just symptoms of the disease.
And not to beat this thing to death, but 225mg of zinc will give plenty of people nausea if it is not taken with food, so even if it is a side effect of the treatment, it is not necessarily a side effect of the hydroxy.

So this clown of a doctor who is under investigation pushes his agenda with the President rather than with the medical community. At this point his letter from March 23rd is completely meaningless and has been widely debunked & condemned. Including by the authorities in Kiryas Joel where he practices medicine.

There have been many clinical trials looking at using hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19 -- this is just one of the many underway.
Over 1/3 of the medical trials in the U.S. currently involve hydroxychloroquine; this is an unusually high percentage. So there is a lot of studying of hydroxychloroquine being done.
However at this point there has been no indication from a proper medical trial that hydroxychloroquine is an effective treatment for COVID-19 --- only time will tell. Maybe hydroxychloroquine-based therapy will be useful if administered earlier and not to people with heart issues or who use Metformin. This particular trial seems to be focused on this type of intervention.
It is interesting that Dr. Zelenko's Youtube video linked in the article has been removed for being fake and violating their terms of service.
Google is taking down videos from reputable sources that mention Hydroxychoroquine. Why? Who knows.
