Yeh, the thing that people forget is that all of the house members and a third of the senators would very much like to have an election too for obvious reasons.
And there is NO provision for extending terms or going into some kind of holding patterns with current presidents, senators, congressional reps beyond the end of their current terms.
Technically, I think Congress alone can set and change the exact date for the election, so they might be able to move it out a month or so if that gets them anything, but then they need to scramble like hell to wrap everything up because everyone's term is still going to end per the constitution without being moved out.
What ET trolls like ExGOPer does not see is this is a golden opportunity to show one's leadership qualities and President Donald Trump is making me proud as an American every single day. The same ET trolls saying President Donald Trump acted late and did not do enough? Explain to me dummies why your countries death rates are going higher, much, much higher than the US? Double or triple the US death rate? Karma is real and if there is anyone more deserving of it, it is you! You hope there is enough misery and death so that, extreme liberal foreigners like you can gloat? This so called recession and his handling of the Corona Virus will do more to re-elect President Donald Trump to another 4 years. You can take that to the bank. In the meantime, the soy leaders of the extreme liberal world in Europe and elsewhere, have done squat!

Like it or not, fair or not, if you're going to beat your chest and take credit for the good times, then you eat it during the bad. It is the Trump Depression coming and unless he pulls a rabbit out of a hat he is done come November. This is 2008 all over again. The number of new people claiming unemployment benefits totaled a staggering 6.648 million last week — doubling the record set a week earlier, the Labor Department said Thursday.
In the prior week, ending March 21, a revised 3.307 million initial claims were filed. But analysts said even that lofty number was low because many states' employment websites were overwhelmed, making it difficult for applicants to get through. A year earlier, the weekly total was just 211,000
