US cars export to EU are subjected to a 10% tariff, EU cars export to the US are subjected to a 2.5% tariff. I don't think it is an equitable situation so why buy one that is inherently 10% more expensive?
I agree with first part. And if you said Clinton and Republican Congress the second part also.Cut it out! Audi, Mercedes and BMWs are more expensive than American made cars and people in the US are buying them hand over fist! Trust me These trade wars will not end up well, this guy is an idiot. Clinton managed to clear the deficit without all this stupidity.![]()

trust you? (a nobody on the internet), or a seasoned real estate billionaire tycoon? let me think for a bit and get back to you.

Well, then maybe you can trust this guy; a known republican strategist Steve Schmidt who said "TRUMP disgraced the Presidency and the United States at the G-7 summit. From his slovenly appearance to his unpreparedness, ignorance and arrogance, he beclowned himself. The Republican majority is filled with cowards who are servile supplicants to the most unfit POTUS ever"
Wake up and smell the coffee!![]()
Do you really think US cars would sell well in Europe if they were 10% cheaper? I certainly don't. Sure, there would be a slight sales increase but nothing dramatic.
I do agree that without the tax in place, if Toyota America would build EU spec cars of US models, Toyota would certainly be a winner. No-one is going to go crazy over a US Chevy or Buick though. Cadillac has tried to break through in the market with massive discounts but there were no takers.
To be honest with you, I do not think you have a brain to think with!Trust a strategist (just a glorified consultant)? or a successful billionaire? let me think some more....

The nuts thing here is there are TONS of American manufacturer cars in Europe. Ford, GM, Chevrolet etc. sell in massive numbers as well as owning several famous European brands.
It is just the European models don't sell in the US because traditionally Americans like automatics, leaf spring suspensions like on stage coaches and extra-cheap plastic interiors.
Until very recently US cars were hopelessly backward guzzlers but they finally dropped the we don't care about Japan or Europe dogma and learned to copy. That is paying off in China sales for Caddy where it does not have the grandad/expensive whale reputation in the West. They have finally made some decent cars copying/competing with the Euro makers.
The BMW Spartenburg plant in South Carolina is the biggest BMW factory in the world, employing 10,000 people and exporting out of the U.S.
Tuscaloosa County Alabama, U.S.A, is the production location of the Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV, GLS SUV, the C-Class for the North American market and the GLE Coupe.
So except for select models there is no need to ship. Same as US makers in Europe.
