Trump Has Gotten China to Lower Its Tariffs. Just Toward Everyone Else.

Really? How do you think all those Chinese tourists spend non RMB all over the world? Hardly any country outside of China accepts RMB

Not exactly. Many countries in proximity to China do accept RMB, on retail or commercial levels. Tourist areas in say Seoul will outright accept RMB.

I'd expect better from you given you are Asia focused.

You can't withdraw USD anymore, it's been quite a few weeks, a lot of people panicking in Vancouver, big mortgages big leases no more money... Friend's dad just went to Shandong, confirmed it when he came back. Anyone that says you can withdraw USD in china right now is a liar

Yeah no. You are again full of shit. I was there 2 months ago and USD withdrawals are processing just fine.

BTW, how's your SPX short doing? Only down ~550 points right?

Small sums perhaps? The rest is exchanged within China, Chinese tourists out of habit exchange most their funds before their trip not during. But you are probably right that one can change here or there. In any case, my point was that there is no perceived pressure when exchanging rmb for us Dollar or other foreign currency, neither domestically within China nor abroad.

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/singapore-s-exports-down-15-9-in-may-11632900

Singapore's non-oil domestic exports (NODX) fell by 15.9 per cent in May, data from trade agency Enterprise Singapore showed on Monday (Jun 17).

The drop, partly due to a sharp decline in shipments to China, was slightly smaller than the 16.5 per cent decline predicted by economists in a Reuters poll, but more than the 10 per cent fall seen in April.

Overall, exports to the majority of Singapore's top markets decreased in May, except to the US.

The largest contributors to the NODX decrease were China (-23.3 per cent), Taiwan (-34.7 per cent) and Hong Kong (-24.8 per cent).

... China has not lowered tariffs for non US industrialized countries since the beginning of the trade war.

What's the source of authority on that claim?

While I don't closely follow China's trade with other countries, I do remember having read a couple of reports on China retaliating against the US and at the same time lowering trade barriers (including tariffs) against other countries, which is basically what the original post is saying. It's also expected, if you know where China is headed with its Belt & Road Initiative.

In other words aligned with tRump.

Trump, like his predecessors, has obediently served the interests of the rich, the military industrial complex, the oil cartel, the pro-Israel lobby, and Wall Street. The media, IMHO, is still playing the same old game of distraction and the phony "democrats vs republicans" monkey show.

It's amazing how effective the tactics has been on the general population -- it's used back in 1913 to help pass the unconstitutional Federal Reserve Act, reviving a virulent vampire that president Andrew Jackson had killed in the 1830's at the risks of his own life.

Trump is a puppet, a clown, and an intellectual lightweight, to put it politely.

P.S. I highly recommend this book "The Secrets of the Federal Reserve" by Eustace Mullins (he was falsely branded as anti-semitic).

This is a claim made in the OP. I challenged that on the basis that a backup was not provided nor did the poster or anyone provide any backup. It's weird you are asking me to prove the existence of the non-existence. Kinda hard don't you think so? If you find factual backup for this claim I would love to see it.

Hardly anybody does critical reading any more...it is a lost skill...

Why don't you demonstrate your critical reading skill by actually pointing out all the errors or falsehoods in the linked article? Or offer some contrary evidence.

The original post is a PIIE article with footnotes. I presume you've read it in its entirety. What kind of backup do you need? It's one thing that you choose to disbelieve it, but it's entirely another if you claim it's biased or false, as then you'll bear the burden to show why it's biased or false.

Nope. You will not see ANY retail stores accepting RMB in seoul unless it's a tourist shopping area. In which case, they accept USD, Yen, and RMB.

That being said, I saw plenty of Chinese tourists here in Japan the last few days and also in Korea last week, spending on whatever they want. I don't know why some posters are making it sound like China is having liquidity issue.

False. An author making claims ALWAYS has the burden of proof. Not the reader.

And why are we turning in circles? The claim was that China has lowered tariffs for non US trading partners since the beginning of the trade war with the US. That is not correct, it is not evidenced anywhere, there is nothing that supports this claim. Nothing. And nobody so far provided any evidence that this claim is correct.

I rest my case.

Why don't you demonstrate your critical reading skill by actually pointing out all the errors or falsehoods in the linked article? Or offer some contrary evidence.

You might want to try reading my post again. It stands unedited. I say clearly exactly what you are saying.

Are you lacking reading comprehension today or just a few IQ points?
