I guess the thing that surprised me was I had just assumed that Nike did pay off these AAU coaches and their top players. And in turn, they went to Nike-equipped schools. It's part of what a big college program sees as a perk of being a Nike team. I don't really see what is so terrible about that in any case. Why shouldn't the one responsible male figure in a lot of these kids lives get a little side action off his efforts? If you want to give brothers in the hood an incentive to do the right thing, then you want them to be able to cash in if they mentor some kid and he hits it big.
