“The email exchange about the desk last spring took place just months before top aides to Pruitt took steps to block a health assessment produced by another division within the agency that found the levels of formaldehyde that many Americans breathe in daily are linked with leukemia, nose-and-throat cancer and other ailments.”

Is there an abnormally high incidence of leukemia in those who have made a long career of embalming I wonder?. Also I would think there might be a higher incidence among zoologists. I recall that our dogfish had been preserved with formaldehyde and kept in a tank that stunk of formaldehyde when you lifted the lid. But the ally cats we dissected I think were injected with some kind of plasticizing agent containing phenol. But that was 55 years ago, and it is hazy in my memory.
