I did not serve in the Secret Service. I am aware how they run. I have one close personal friend who is a retired agent (just under 10 years now), and one not-so-close friend currently working with the agency.
Just because they are strict in how they run does not mean they aren't subject to the same rules and regulations of every other government agency, and must run their outfit the exact way DHS defines (and in many cases, was grandfathered in from Treasury).
One could say the same thing as to why RBG had a funeral with so many who got to say goodbye.
The real question isn't why Trump was able to have a "joyride" but why this guy wasn't allowed to see his father.
Maybe the father should of been let out for a joy ride of his own? Who stopped him?
