Canada is not that significant. We don't really care what you think about Trump or Hillary. One thing I'll give Germany, they realised after WWII that in order to sell premium products they needed customers who could afford their cars and industrial goods. They worked to spread economic prosperity.

Study up a bit on the Marshall Plan if you want to know who was working to get Germany prosperous as soon as possible when we could have played the role of conquering army. Same with Japan.

I'm from a couple of places however I am entitled to a US passport if I want one. I don't, not just for tax reasons.

Just to add. A forgotten aspect of the Marshall plan was Truman knew he needed Western Europe on it's feet sharpish. The Soviets were a serious threat. Loaning (it was repaid) money to get Western Europe on it's feet fast was not charity, it was essential.
