Trump Abruptly Orders 46 Obama-Era Prosecutors to Resign

WASHINGTON — The Trump administration on Friday moved to sweep away the remaining vestiges of Obama administration prosecutors at the Justice Department, ordering 46 holdover United States attorneys to tender their resignations immediately — including Preet Bharara, the United States attorney in Manhattan.

This New York Times articles is absurd. They make it sound like the forced resignations are a surprise. In reality this occurs every time an administration changes.

Here is a more realistic view...

AG Sessions asks remaining 46 US attorneys to resign

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has asked the remaining 46 U.S. attorneys who served under the Obama administration to resign, the Justice Department announced Friday, describing the move as part of an effort to ensure a "uniform transition."

The department said some U.S. attorneys, as in prior transitions, already had left the department. Now, "the Attorney General has now asked the remaining 46 presidentially appointed U.S. Attorneys to tender their resignations," a spokeswoman said.

“Until the new U.S. Attorneys are confirmed, the dedicated career prosecutors in our U.S. Attorney’s Offices will continue the great work of the Department in investigating, prosecuting, and deterring the most violent offenders,” the statement added.

It is customary, though not automatic, for the country's 93 U.S. attorneys to leave their positions once a new president is in office. Incoming administrations over the past several decades typically have replaced most U.S. attorneys during the first year or two.

Any other source citing the 'customary' for attorneys to leave bit? I never trust fox news on anything really.

How about CNN...

"Administrations have the right to replace and nominate US attorneys. President Bill Clinton, for instance, dismissed dozens of US attorneys in his first year of office.

In mid-March 2001, President George W. Bush's attorney general said he was transitioning most of the 93 US attorneys before June of that year"

Sessions Asks Obama-Era Prosecutors to Resign
The request is far-reaching, affecting 46 remaining U.S. attorneys, but not unlike directives from past incoming administrations.

"Friday's request, though made perhaps a week or two later than normal, is typical of incoming administrations, which generally ask the Justice Department's political appointees to resign at the outset of the administration. Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, for example, dismissed most of the U.S. attorneys upon taking office.

"The only thing that’s a little unusual is the timing of it – typically it’s a little earlier – but it’s pretty standard," says Henry Hockeimer, a former U.S. attorney under Clinton and a partner at Ballard Spahr. "These are political appointees that serve at the pleasure of the president, so they know they’re all going when a new administration comes in.""

fair enough, I guess I hoped judicial appointments were based on merit, not loyalties/politics.

This is America, all of the supposedly unbiased institutions are now just political bodies, doing the bidding of whoever happens to be in charge, its actually getting to a place where it is very dangerous, like i have said before during Obama's administration there was all kinds of examples of government beurecracies (cant spell this word no matter how many times i try) targeting political opponents, and supposedly Obama had nothing to do with it, I dont know which one is scarier, the thought of beurecracies who are being used by the person in power to target enemies, or the thought of out of control beurecracies operating on their own behalf to benefit themselves, with no one in charge truly running the ship, either way it doesnt look good.
