OK, I want to address something right here and now. I am not Trey Gowdy. Nor do I work for him, but I would have been proud to have written that speech.
Gowdy is an interesting guy. He kind of straddles the Tea Party and Boehner wings of the party. As great as he sounds at times, he supported Lindsey Graham for reelection, and i believe he is pro amnesty although I can't say that for sure. The Graham support is probably wrapped up in internal SC republican politics, whch can be byzantine.
This investigation is high risk for him. I recall how Fred Thompson fell on his face trying to nail the Clintons on Whitewater. If Gowdy can get some scalps however, he puts himself on the VP menu.
Unfortunately, if he's on the cusp of getting anybody, the left will scream until boehner and the leadership cut off the limb gowdy is on.
I wish it wasn't so, but all history says that is what would happen.
He can expect the full Ken Starr demonization experience.
I always thought Starr was somewhat passive. Gowdy just showed he's anything but...I believe he might just respond to demonization much more aggressively.
