Trend following fails to beat index

Quote from oldtime:

I know I give you a hard time Humpy, but sometimes you and your England make me envious. Do they still let you sit around and smoke over there?

Here in ithe USA they make you go outside.

I asked somebody what the weather was like outside, and he said, "I don't know, I don't smoke."

No smoking just about everywhere here OT.
I stopped whilst in hospital. The patients had to go outside, as you say to smoke. The assorted wounded group outside grew smaller in the frosty weather !! But I'm glad I did. Regular walks now and filtered water. I feel great again.

"filtered water"? Isn't that what they invented beer for?

I just called the Copenhagen "Quit Smoking" hotline.

It sounds pretty reasonable

You chew for ten years until you have lost all your teeth

But if you save the receipts from all the tins you bought

They give you a free prescription to Chantix.

So it's basically win/win

100s of years ago you are right everyone drank beer as the water was foul. Nowadays they put aluminum ( aluminium ) sulphate in to make the water look clean and fluoride. Fluoride if you look on the net makes people docile leading to alzheimers and does nothing for their teeth.

Sorry folks I am digressing.

The difficulty I find playing with trends is to determine where the U bend is. There are lots of fake bends and then suddenly the real one. In hindsight it looks obvious of course.
