I'm not saying the issue is a simple one, but I didn't like Tsing's tone. Transgenders are people, too. There should be some inclusiveness, but I don't know what form it should take. Perhaps they should compete with other transgenders or with the gender of their origin. I don't know. But it's a conversation that needs to take place, without the ridicule and finger pointing.Fred, with all your knowledge in the genetic differences between men and women you cannot possibly support men competing as women in weightlifting. You post one article after another about the science in weight training, all of them useful articles. Where's the science that claims men have no advantage in this sport when they most certainly do? Women's track, and now weight lifting are being destroyed by these guys posing as women. This is absurd and you know it.
Look, I know you think this transgender thing is an abomination, but you're wrong. It is a reality that people have to deal with. Try employing a bit of empathy for transgenders. Imagine being born with a body that never felt right all the way into adulthood. Personally, I couldn't imagine the emotional ride. But it is evidently very real, even though it makes us (yeah, including me) somewhat uncomfortable. Take a moment, without judgment, and walk in their moccasins for a while in your head. How can you not feel compassion?
