Trading with Market Profile

Quote from russ1:

I apologize to all!

I am new to this forum and thought that with my above post that I was replying to one of the first few questions which asked about software ( I was rereading old posts)

I have no connection with Jim Dalton other than having studied his work. I have read Steidlmayer as well. Obviously Steidlmayer knows Profile trading, since he developed the theory, but his writing is (at least for me) difficult to discern........by the way some of his writing on MP is FREE on the CBOT web site.
Dalton's two books explain Market profile better than any source I have found.
Windotrader is much better than esignal, cqg, photon trader, trade station or any other MP charting software.

Just curious what time frame you trade

Market profile is about as useless as my dick after nine beers.

Good luck to all of you who rely on it.

You should have written: "Market profile is about as useless to me, as my dick is to me after nine beers".

See the difference?

Way to add something constructive to the board..what a loser

maybe market profile is useless to you because just like your dick you dont know how to use it. The simple trading of just value area hi's and lows are the basics thats it the basics. Market profile should be used for indicating market structure and where there stucture is failing or succeeding. Heres a copy of my Market profile for the 30 yr bonds for today 2/25/09 and just to educate you the take a look at the 127'12 area price going beyond 127'14 area was a clear indication that structurally something was changing so I watched price go down to around 127 and waited for price to come back into that area and got short.... gues what worked like a charm.....so simply put market profile is moe than just value areas and bell shaped curves you have to use your mind and understand the logic...well if you cant use your dick how could anyone expect you to use your mind

i don't know of any demo MP trading software, but there are several solid charting options out there (WindoTrader, IRT, Sierra, TradeMaven, Market Delta, CQG, etc). I'm very happy with WindoTrader.

lots of different directions out there for this question. here are a few options:

Anatomy of CBOT MarketProfile - by Jim Dalton

ASX on MarketProfile - good primer on MP

CBOT MarketProfile Manual

Market Profile Basics

Interview with Pete Steidlmayer

and three of the most referred to books on Market Profile:
Mind over Markets, by Jim Dalton

Markets in Profile, by Jim Dalton

Steidlmayer on the Markets, by Pete Steidlmayer and Steve Hawkins

of course, there is a lot of info among the various forums. ET, TradersLaboratory, Trade2Win, and MyPivots all have plenty of MP related material.

as for actually teaching MP, you can always go straight to one of the pioneering sources, Jim Dalton. he teaches a course, CL/CES, on Market Profile. actually, it's a lot more encompassing than just MP. i enrolled in it in January 2009 and am very impressed, very glad i enrolled.

hope this helps.

Here's an online Market Profile Calculator - not sure if that's what you're looking for?
