Actually to be completely clear it's relative to time period volatility,and without a firm stop you have no firm plan.

If you are constantly getting stopped you are skimming too close, which means you are either under-capitalized or your entry levels are poor...either way you shouldn't trading futures.

The misinformation on this thread is disappointing.

The guy with the stop loss gets hit for a (relatively) small loss. The guy without a stop loss endures the plunge and is CURSING the diaster that just happened. Luckily he will recover if he didn't panic and sell at the bottom.

Now what if it really was an actual bombing event like the Boston Marathon? Geez your account just took a serious dent. :(

- gullible newbie reading too many brokers' and teachers' website
- have never traded in their life and are "backtesting tigers"
- failed traders, hoping to recover what they lost by attempting to "teach" others their nonsense.
- peanuts trader running a slot machine which makes no money but feeds the addiction
