I have been purposely avoiding this "diet thread" since I would be an obvious target for all sorts of "fat jokes" ...and I have tried most of the diets, yada yada.....
Just for fun, when they talk about trading and and the Atkins, what I'm doing this time, in the office....I bought a simple $17.00 grill from WalMart (sans the George Foreman label, much cheaper)..and simply spend 6 minutes with either chicken breasts or pork filets...works great ...I 'cheat' with a little catsup...and I'm good to get back on the ocmputer and don't miss any trading....
My brother's wife brings him low carb food mid day as well (Mine teaches grade school, keeps her kinda busy)...
I will stay on the "modified Atikins" diet for about 3 months, and then switch back to a more standard regimine.....I do toss in a few "Juice man" type drinks to keep the system clean.
All with my Dr's blessing....my chloresterol is perfect (knock on wood), and my BP is 130/85 last checked...(gotta watch it after the heart valve replacement)....
Anyway, just klling time before the big Holiday family event(s).

Responding to criticism from scientists that Atkins could lead to heart disease and other health problems, the director of research and education for Atkins Nutritionals, Colette Heimowitz, is telling health professionals that only 20 percent of a dieter's calories should come from saturated fat, the paper said.
Beef, pork, lamb and butter were on the list of "foods you may eat liberally" in diet founder Dr. Robert C. Atkins' plan. Atkins' original 1972 book, "Dr. Atkins' Diet Revolution," was contrary to the recommendations of most nutritional experts at the time. It has become increasingly popular since the 1992 publication of his book, "Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution."
Atkins, who died last year, always maintained that people should eat other food besides red meat, but had trouble getting that message out, the paper said.

If you go to www.atkins.com they will tell you that they did not say that at all. That the diet remains the same as it has been since 1972. sigh
