"Thanks man. I'll find a way of getting her to look into it that makes her think it was her idea

."
Just tell her you read a summary of the zone diet and it
seems that she has come to the same conclusion
as a PHD microbiologist who holds all kinds of scientific
patents for delivery of cancer medications

Leave it at that...hehehe
" If she liked beer I have a feeling just two or three good beers a week would fix it. Beer is an amazing low-density source of complex carbs."
It is? How many calories in a beer?
Know what the glycemic index is for a beer?
My other comments...
1) What is your height? What kind of frame? Small boned, medium, big? (Ectomorph, mesomorph..etc)
2) It's better to measure by volume not weight.
I've gone DOWN in volume, clothes fit looser, etc, but up in
weight since im replacing fat mass with muscle mass.
3) Your weird cravings lead me to think your system really
gets outta whack at times. I dont remember the details,
but the doc in the zone described how to "read" your body
so you can fine tune the protein/fat/carb balance.
4) Might try a grazing diet as well. 3 smaller meals a day
with lots of snacks inbetween.
If you feel hungry, it's too late, yor insulin levels have
crashed and things are out of whack.
Maybe you should look into getting off the induction phase,
and get to a more normal balanced diet SLOWLY, and fine
tune along the way.
I'm not a doc or an expert on this matter, but from what i've
researched, this is the approach I would try in your situation.
Oh...and keep up the weight lifting that you can do.
Those guys are lean for a reason.
