Quote from NazAttack:
I completely agree that (if possible) you should use XP. That holds true for any thick client trading platform...Call Ninja, or SR...TradeStation. They will all tell you the same. That the preferred OS is XP, but their platforms will work on Vista.
(..........)
Frankly, I'm shocked you would even say that.
I'm shocked that a broker that must respect the strict TT standards over its TT-net infrastructure suggest its potential customers to use a not-approved OS as a valid point in order to attract more customers.
The guys that choose TT must know that they choose reliability and speed with no compromise or unsafe workarounds in order to use Vista.
We can say that TT offer an archaic or conservative GUI vs. other platforms, but I would like to see here a TT Developer Team or TT CSC affirm that we can use X_Trader in reliable way before listening and trusting a broker affirming that's the case.
The customers and you can check the TT Forum for more reliable source (run a search with Vista), leaving aside other software such as SR or Ninja.
The fact the TT Fix protocol is able to run on Vista with SR or Ninja has nothing to do with TT X_Trader standalone.
XP Pro and Windows 2003 server are the current supported OSes for X_Trader; XP Pro 64 bit is an accepted exception.
Also please note that we're talking about XP Pro not Home.
This is a detail to be known because should happen an issue with a customer running Vista, he will not able to receive support by TT since a ticket would not be open.
So you are potentially responsible to attract customers running Vista without assuring them an adeguate support in case of incident because of the TT CSC (correct) policy for support.
Again, these details should be clear because are the consequence of the TT Software & Hardware requirements specified above.
