Agree it takes 10,000+ hours to come up with a credible strategy but to think others aren't already using exactly the same or similar logic in their strategies is bit naive. I have little doubt the big investment banks and funds like Renaissance are fully aware of the logic I use in my system especially given that price behaves in accordance with that logic.

Just like the English language. Didn't someone already put that down in words. However, there are new books, literature, songs and poetry written everyday. So who is being naive. If there is, my associates and I have yet come across anything similar, and we've been doing this for a long time.
We haven't even discussed photography...

Yes, new books everyday... does not mean you can patent the English language. No patent, just copyright... New systems everyday to trade... based on math, occurency, maybe even the allingment between the moon and the earth, who knows what. It's like coca cola, no patent can be given to something with indrigients know to the public. I have no doubt about it that you will find a specialist in patents that will make you believe you are 'right' to patent your system. But how are you going to know, one that somebody is using some part of your system, and two, how are you going to prove that the trader has breach your patent? Save your money. Make a blackbox or non disclouser argreements with your system, if you have the need to 'share' it with other traders. It will be more actionable in the court of law then a patent.

All i want to do is listen to experts for free before i talk to lawyers who want to take my money regardless of out come.

FYI business procedures and process can be patented but it's a highly specialized area, I will be back in DC next week and meet with couple of specialist over drinks. It's because plenty have gone down this path before and understand the common-sense behind it.

How can you enforce a patent when others can be using it and you'd never know or without even knowing your patent exists? Patents are good for ideas behind product development and things that are exposed to the market. e.g technology behind the Apple IPhone etc.

Are you going to subpoena every other system developer's trading records on the suspicion that they might be using some or all of the logic in your algorithm. Think about what it takes to enforce an algorithm patent. You need evidence or reasonable suspicion to get subpoenas of trading records, you need to prove from the evidence there's a breach by analysing trading records, you then need to provide full details of your algorithm in court and prove that the defendant's algorithm is in breach of your patent. Hope you've got a massive legal budget, most intellectual property lawyers won't even touch this type of litigation for under six figures.

The more informed you become the more you'll realise it's the dumbest idea ever.

Regardless of my position. Since the patent examiners are willing to discuss the topic, wouldn't it be wise to listen? How about i recruiter 1 or 2 of them for my startup and let them setup patents. Maybe a lawyer also...

Yeah, Brad Matsuyama is one of them. How many are familiar with? Or is it just hear say, like most in here. Nothing wrong with listening to what patent specialist have to say. Worst things can happen, one of them is paying patent attorney's retainer before completing due diligence.
