Trading patent algo

Logically one would assume that an algorithm can't be patented, but to anyone that thinks the USPTO doesn't allow this, you should read about software patents. One of the patents I got approved was something I think was absolutely ridiculous from a developer perspective. It was a rather logical extension of existing technology that if you wanted to do what we did, that the way we did it was the most logical route. As such, it was what I would consider trivial and while we didn't patent the source code itself, we patented the algorithm from a flow chart level (which then means it applies to the implementation in any language).

Congratulations for being an active participant in evil. Maybe next time, don't do this sh*t and the world will be a better place for it.

The thought of a trading algorithm being patented is completely idiotic. But that doesn't mean it won't happen because we have immoral assh*les running the asylum.

I guess you don't have any intellectual property worth protecting...

To even think that you can patent a trading algorithm takes a one-of-a-kind assh*le thinking outside the box. Congrats.
And it takes one to know one. Why the name calling when someone is protecting their hard work. IMHO you just want profitable algo's for free. You're the exact type i would want protection from. You'd look good in orange.

It's the internet and some just resort to name calling. THey dish it out but can't handle the return.

You are hoping for a patent to cover "intellectual" property?

From your posts thus far, I would say it is very unlikely you will get over the first hurdle.

Anyone have experience patenting a trading algo? I worked at USPO many moons ago in IT a connection setup meeting with patent director tonight over drinks. Anyone with experience they're willing to share would be helpful...

The first step in your journey would be to speak with a patent attorney, who knows what it is all about. They can lead you on the path to where you need to go, if you are serious about your idea.

And that is the key...If you are serious about this "algo patent" idea, you would not be asking here. You'd be asking an attorney that knows this part of the law.

...
I'm looking for experienced comments. Not peanuts from the gallery. Please comment with true experience, not gut feel or lack of common sense.
Actually I put away the idea long ago but the patent director initiated the meeting. I am in Alexandria VA staying at an associates condo around the corner from USPTO. I'm going to listen to what an expert has to say rather than some wannabe on the web dishing out their limited common sense.

Speak to an attorney.

...Thanks, I will mention that during the meeting. However, I am programming the algo and the patent may protect intellectual property. When marketing the end product, having a patent in place may help in the long run...

Speak to an attorney. Do you get it?

Please don't assume others are as stupid as you. FYI all patents protect IP, but that just slipped over your head like most things ...
