Trading options in Portfolio Margin account

Quote from rmorse:

Also, if you have over $100K in your PM account, but your haircut is over your equity, you must add money or reduce your positions to meet current margin requirements.

How do you figure that out ?????

It's not easy or simple. You can use the occ website to get a close approximation of requirement for a position. My firm offers a premium product for trading groups and hedge funds that will calculate portfolio margin haircut in real time for equity/option trading. The risk platform is very new and works for multiple prime brokers, multiple platforms, and many traders with complex positions. For our other clients, our risk manager can monitor haircut for our clients.

Question to rmorse ??????

Does your firm clear any trades

Does your firm help raise capital for trading groups or hedge funds

Quote from Dolemite:

The problem with selling options this low is that the last .05 takes forever to come out. I have more success selling 60 days out and taking the first 50% of the decay vs. selling closer in and taking the last 50% of the decay. Gamma is lower farther out too.

With a PM account, make sure you see what your margins would be for a position at different $ values. You will find that the margin requirement will dramatically increase or decrease as you move away from current price.

Good advice. Don't sell dimes and nickels.

Does the OCC calculator use yesterday's close price or is it real time?

The website is not real time. It uses the close from the day before.
