Trading on "Instynct" (NQ)

Instynct how many contracts are trading at a time? How large do you think you can go daytrading on the NQ before you need to go to the ES?
Good thread, keep it up.

Currently 1 contract, and always mindful of trading larger size in the future.

I have yet to trade larger size so I can't tell you from experience what slippage will be. But just looking at the average depth of NQ on the DOM, I would say 15 to 20 more or less. I think it also depends how you enter your positions. If you chase by using stop orders to enter, you might incur more slippage.

Thanks Instynct, looks like you could make a good income the way your trading once you get up to 5 to 8 contracts. For me I figure account size of about $6500 per contract for NQ and about $10000 per contract for the ES. What kind of capital are you looking at per contract traded.

I'm comfortable with 5k per NQ, but I probably don't even need that much. Because if my average loss is 2 pts, and I take say 3 or 4 losses in a row ($120-$160), or if I'm just having a bad day, I'm going to stop, re-evaluate, fix my mistakes, and then start trading slowly again until I regain my rhythm. I'm not going to continue trading until my account goes to zero.

What do you trade BA?

I was daytading the NQ & ES, and was marginally profitable and after doing the math and figuring I needed a much larger account to justify the time I switched to swing trading with trades lasting from a couple of weeks to a couple of months. I have a good paying business and couldn't justify the lower income I was making trading with the under capitalized account. Ive saved enough in the last couple of years to fully fund a trading account time permitting. The truesm you read about using less leverage is me, I trade with a much clearer mind with less leverage. I think that is why my swing trading is going so well. I didn't get smarted I just started trading smaller.

Looks like you've found the right method that you are comfortable with and allows you to trade with a clear mind. How many contracts do you trade and do you scale in and out (if more than one)?

I swing trade stocks, mostly trading C and CHK the last year.
Here an example went long C on 11/18 @ 4.28 was close to high of day then went immediately against me for a few days then went higher, got out on I think it was 2/8 @ 4.86 avg. price. Coulda woulda shoulda got out around 5.00 but got greedy. This is kinda typical I held longer than I usually do but it worked out.
And yes I scale in I added to this position after it went against me and moved up.
