Trading needs the same "revolution" that martial arts went through 15 years ago

First time I have seen woodie called out on this forum. Just in time to GO BUY HIS $900 BILLION DOLLAR DVD! :D

Just look at their web site, like a used car lot complete with flashing lights and a zillion banners, a spruikers theme park.

Dead giveaway !

I sometimes wonder if the really gifted masters of some of the other styles really get involved in mixed combat.

I had a 5th degree Taekwondo black belt instructor who was also a tenant of mine. I studied 3 years under him, but only 2-3x a week. I stopped at high red.

His speed and power was unbelievable.

I saw a video of two internal grandmasters fighting. It was really old and flickery because it was on film. I will see if I can find a link somewhere and post it.

It was HORRIBLE. I think one guy was a Hsing-Yi guy. It was basically two old men on a rooftop going around and trying to bop each other on the head.

This film was posted in traditional kung fu forums and people were marveling at the technique being displayed. I was like, are you kidding me? It was atrocious.

I do have this to say about kung fu, however. I studied Wing Chun for a while before I was enlightened to MMA. I have used a Wing Chun technique once to defend myself in a very small space when I was attacked out of the blue in a hallway. Wing Chun worked perfectly for that. However in the other 99% of possible fighting scenarios, I would do MMA and not Wing Chun. In fact, when I joined my first MMA gym, I tried Wing Chun techniques against boxers and was subsequently destroyed every time. But there was still no ego, everyone was cool. The instructor said "if you want to try something, here is the place to try it." I was so convinced that Wing Chun was a superior fighting art and maybe if I just trained a little harder I could beat the boxers. Nope. I was shown objective evidence that I was wrong, and I began learning boxing for MMA. I feel like a lot of traders are like that... "maybe if I just study Woodie's patterns a little bit harder I will become profitable." Nope. But feel free to continue losing money.

Oh and if you find a qualified teacher, some of the internal arts could possibly be beneficial for health.

But if you want to learn fighting, it's MMA or nothing.

I can easily tell you do not know how to trade. If you did then you would have left your last paragraph out of the thread. You said fake gurus tell inexperienced traders fortune cookies without concrete example's. I do not know what you mean by fortune cookies but if a successful trader was to give concrete examples of his strategies and methods what do you think would happen to his methods? It would catch on like wild fire and soon the method wouldn't work anymore leaving the once successful trader without a profitable system unless he has multiple methods. What i am saying is that trading is intellectual property. People are not willing to teach something if the end result of that teaching means losing the knowledge of what they taught and also the profits that came from that knowledge.

You don't know of any successful trader who give's concrete examples and methods so therefore your entire analogy and list of statements is no more than a complaint about not getting what you want at this website. Instead of spending your time thinking of descriptive ways of describing what you do not have why don't you spend your time actually studying the market.

You misunderstood my thread. Check your PMs.

I was a black belt in 3 arts before I started BJJ and all the BJJ white belts kicked my ass. It was a rude awakening to say the least.

Agreed.

I remember that feeling well. btw, the "anti-take down" defense they teach you in other styles is bullshit :D I learned that right away, too.

Quote from bjjtrader:

If you ever want a mind blowing experience, walk into your local BJJ school and ask to roll with the BJJ black belt there as your intro to decide if you want to sign up.

And then after you've been immobilized in 3 seconds and have no idea wtf just happened to you, and you say to yourself "Psssh, well he's a blackbelt, no wonder he beat me." ask to roll with a white belt who has been there for 2 months. Enjoy the same feeling in about 5 seconds.

The feeling of complete domination and helplessness is mind boggling. The technical ability these guys posses can not be described in words.

This bjjtrader guy is right on the money.

Imagine on your first day of trading a live account you decided to play it conservatively and traded only 1 contract in a long position. Imagine 5 seconds later some crazy market event happened and you just blew out your $10k beginner account. Imagine that feeling. It's pretty much like that, psychologically.

Virtually all the BJJ chokes are blood chokes designed to make you unconscious in a few seconds. Air chokes take too long.

Plus air chokes cause permanent damage if the other guy doesn't tap out, or if you apply them wrong.

Blood chokes only cause permanent damage if you continue to hold them for a while.

And you can't hold your breath and wait out a blood choke :D

Im a BJJ brown belt and the original poster nails it.
MMA filtered down the list of what really works and it looks like this:

BJJ
Muay Thai
Wrestling
Boxing
Full contact kick boxing - the real stuff like K1
Some Judo - less effective without the Kimono in the ring
Sambo

So how come Fedor (Sambo/Judo) thrashed Noguiera (BJJ) so hard? And everyone else for that matter.

Also, I thought the post was about fighting. MMA is a sport, like boxing. It's not the type of fight you would ever get in the real world. A bit like paper trading vs real trading. When they have ring fights where people pull guns, knives, outnumber someone 4 to 1, sucker punch people, or call the cops, then it might be more like real life.
