Trading isn't really stupid.

Trading is just stupid.

Quote from SteveNYC:

I knew a bond trading prop firm that covered transportation and food expenses.

I am looking for an equity prop firm that does the same. A small stipend/salary would be nice but don't expect it.

The reason why I am looking for this type of firm is b/c I feel that I am bearing all the risk at most of the equity prop firms.

Basically I just wanted to trade my system with group of decent traders without dealing with food and transportation costs. I have got a lot of risk to manage already.

Also, it's easier to trade when you have multiple sources of income.

you get on the food stamp program yet...............:D

Nah. I don't need transportation expenses and food anymore.

They are for wimps.

Quote from Wide Tailz:

1. You invest in young pharmaceutical company

2. You happen to pick the company that has found a cure for the common cold (or a real world example: RPRX with its testosterone replacement drug)

3. Since this company has enabled millions of people to remain in the work place, there is a positive macroeconomic effect beyond trading accounts

4. This logic can be applied to any company with a new invention that raises the economic output of the macro economy.

*edit - getting back to trading accounts, since this hypothetical company experiences huge sales and earnings growth on a continual basis, the share price rises in proportion to whatever multiple The Market agrees is fair for a company of its type. Then, years later, it stabilizes and begins to pay dividends. The share price reflects this positive (absolutely not zero sum) cash flow that is generated by productive economic activity.

Bottom up investing........ (and yes RPRX has doubled in less than a year, I only wish I had the foresight to pile in and stay in once it got going)

so you were in RPRX and then got out of it selling your shares to someone else losing out on potential further gains.

hence, you lost and someone else won.

isn't this the definition of zero-sum?

When I was struggling with trading I didn't call it stupid I knew that someone else made it work for them. Just cause you can't make it work for you doesn't mean its stupid.

Trading is just like the game of numbers and probability. You need to calculate 10 moves ahead before taking any decision at any point of time. You also need to do some risk reward analysis to measure your investment. I don't think it is a waste but ya it can ruin your life if not understood carefully.

there's lenders and there's borrowers but in between those are traders. I think of trading as moving away from being a borrower towards being a lender.

You cannot always assume the other person makes a profit off those shares you sold them.Probably more dont than do.

Trading is the most primitive activity that makes this world exist. No trading, no existence. Traders, no matter how small, are part of this process. Losers are as important as winners. If you are a loser, you are important to the winner. You have helped him live a better life. There you go.

Also, never help anyone unless he asks you for that, actually begs you. Cardinal rule of life.

Now, mods pls move this to chit-chat.
