Trading in Dubai

how bout doing me a favor and posting or sending me that ping time. be curious to compare it to mine here in chicago.

also, while i would certainly prefer the fastest connection possible, until there is a large trading presence in dubai-which i guess will be never actually (or not anytime soon), the loop back to london wont really matter. the only people you will be competing for trades against are the other dubai traders who happen to want to do the same trade as you in the same instant and there is only enough for one of you to get filled. in that highly limited case you would lose out to someone in dubai who connects directly to the eurex hub. as i have traded in chicago, london, paris and frankfurt, i cant imagine you would even notice a difference in dubai no matter what the connection.

i was under the impression that if you connect to a eurex hub anywhere in the world, they delay the faster hubs so everyone has the same speed?

That is correct, because their traders will not be satisfied if their orders cant be filled when requested. That would cause trouble:D

im looking to open up within the next 6 months, both Prop Traders and Arcade traders will be catered to... Anyone interested pm me..

Quote from Dogfish:

The lay of the land for the London arcades opening in dubai is basically they are looking for about 30 pro futures prop traders to commit to the initial office set up costs, somewhere in the region of £450k total in return for equal equity stakes in the new company with the view that as the business expands so would your share value. Running costs, backing etc would then be handled as normal. Although only eurex have a hub out there currently, a pipe to cbot/liffe/cme would be placed out there intially at about £130k/year until the other exchanges open hubs as happened in Singapore. If any current arcade traders are genuinely interested in this PM.

I know a few people who've been posted out there in the last couple of years and think it's a great place to live

This is an interesting thread that should keep coming up. I do find it to be biased, cause some of the stuff said is a bit out there.

I actually know someone who is moving to Dubai as we speak. She is in real estate and wants to pursue it there. I think she is in for a surprise, and not a pleasant one. Think 6 months before she comes back to NYC.

Definitely worth a stay, but living there? Not my cup of tea. Many other places that are better, natural environments, not environmental catastrophes.

That is an interesting link from someone there. No thanks.

Good rant but nothing I didn't already know having lived in the region- apart from Knightrider being on which I can't wait to see again

Women do get a tougher time out there especially with staring etc but it's worse in the other neighbouring countries. To go out as a woman on your own would be hard work.

"Don’t even think about giving someone the finger in your car; the offense could land you in jail." That could land you shot dead in the trigger happy USA! I agree the traffic is awful out there though

I really don't think she appreciates how fast this country has developed from nothing, and as for moaning about holes in the ground to pee in - France is only just getting rid of those!

what else, from my experience NYC cab drivers weren't too fresh or knowledgable either, you need to be in London to get good cabbies but then they study "The Knowledge" for years. I used quite a few cabs when I was out there in April and had good experiences, it's luck of the draw.

I entirely agree it's not an environmentally sound place - running a ski slope in the desert wasn't really going to be was it! But maybe america should clean up their own back yard on that front before pointing the finger elsewhere

It's not cheap either electricals cost less elesewhere and you have to pay your year's rent up front in general (about GBP£1200 a month for 1 bed ~900sq ft in a decent area). However, if you're trading european markets and getting paid in euros/sterling then the low dollar tie makes it better. It might not be cheaper than the US but the US is much cheaper than London

To sum up it is horses for courses and if it's your first move to a country outside your own you're bound to be shocked it's never going to be like back home but then again maybe you'll appreciate it all the more when you return. Try working in Saudi and you'll think Dubai is paradise.

You'd have many same gripes from someone living in China but I'd still love to live there for a year or two. But even a western man with hair on his legs gets shouted "monkey man" at down the street there! :D
