Quote from MarketRabbi:
Hi everyone,
We all now the usual things that are said about mentors as a whole. Their stuff doesn't work, they're all frauds, etc. etc. Here's a little story from the other side:
I recently stopped mentoring traders. The reason I stopped was because one of my students, who I spent weeks (months?) with teaching my method, was making mistakes. Those mistakes, of course, led to losses. Those losses were immediately blamed on me. When I then gave him instructions on how to improve his trading and discipline, of course the instructions weren't listened to. Which led to more losses. Which, of course, were again blamed on me. Suddenly, this student started threatening me from anything from having TradeStation sue me for using their indicators to letting everyone in the world know what a charlatan I am.
About a year and a half ago I took ill with an illness which first made me cut down on my trading, and then made it stop totally. Having been forced to stop trading, I nonetheless decided to try to continue making a living through the markets which I love so much, and turned to mentoring. But it's over. I know understand why there are so few "real" mentors around. The good ones realize that it's just not worth the pain and agony when they come face to face with a situation like this, while the "fake" ones don't care less about complaints. Come to think of it, who knows how many of those alleged fake ones weren't fake at all, but couldn't survive a public smear campaign from a disgruntled student who wouldn't listen to instructions...
So now I'm an ex-trader AND an ex-mentor. Which might not last long, because I'm now seriously considering returning to trading myself, illness be blasted. To tell the truth, I can hardly imagine leaving the trading world (and ET, of course) totally behind.
Anyway, that was my little rant...
