Trading during high volatility

Good advice, thanks. I'll look into that option for sure. My system is systematic enough now that I didn't worry about "tilt" as much as I normally would have, but it's funny how the market is like water. It can find the slightest crack. So what ended up happening from the pressure is mechanical errors: misentering trades then freezing etc etc. I'd actually be up on the month slightly if not for just a couple unbelievable fatfingers.

Humbly, the market doesn't find anything. The market just is. It's completely impersonal. There's only you.

Size + conditions I think just made my brain melt.

Completely normal. Even if you size down this type of volatility is demanding for a discretionary trader. I was pretty exhausted at the end of this week, but part of it was probably that I was trading 24/7, too. More hours than I usually do.

I think the past week is nightmare for scalper who didn't adjust, but dream for trend trader like myself. I can be wrong 3 times in a row taking 30pt+ loss, but get back 50-100pts on the next trade because the range is so big and market trend so well in both directions.

Yep. I'm adjusting as we speak. Spent the weekend studying if I can tighten my stops. Looks like I can by about 20%. And I've got an initial balance condition for now that will halt all trading for the day if the first hour is above a certain amount.

Yeah in my case, this wasn't really a live discretion problem. My trades are like 95% systematic at this point with just a couple minor forms of judgment I can apply in the moment. I think this was just an I'm not sized right to survive these wider springs problem. For now, I've just decided to not trade these crazier days at all, but long term, it makes me wonder if and when I'll have to adjust as bigger and bigger point moves become the new norm. I'm assuming that's years away though.
