Tradestation - best way to learn

Hi

I'd like to transition to Tradestation and would like to learn how to use the platform, specifically:

• In depth strategy back testing – designing, testing, optimising, monitoring, walk forward and automating custom trading strategies etc. on a stand-alone basis and on a portfolio level across symbols/strategies

• Putting in place strategy(ies) that have passed the “factory line” or “QA process” so to speak into simulated mode to see how they’re doing in a “live no money environment” (I’d need to understand how this is done, how Trade Manager works errors etc.) and then how to actually take these strategies live i.e. execution/entry/exit etc. – as part of that I would also need to understand futures and how they execute/rollover on the platform
• How to use Trading Apps store etc. and deploy those apps
On a more basic level, I’d like to see how Radar screen/Matrix etc. but not in as much detail as my interests are very much towards systematic/automated systems trading.

To summarize, I want to learn everything about testing to order execution (on TS) on futures and ETF’s for a portfolio of tested strategies.

I could watch videos but learn better through one-on-one guidance etc. - would a TS engineer (i.e. programmer type person) or trader be better placed to provide the above services.

1) fan27: No, I don't have coding experience.

2) traderslair: Yes, I am aware there are manuals and videos - people learn differently, have different constraints on their time and absorb knowledge in varied ways, so things are often a little bit more nuanced than the assumption you make of "being lazy". In my specific situation which may not be applicable to you, for good reasons, I would prefer that I pay a financial premium for one-on-one assistance from someone who is competent in TS - in any event, learning methods are not mutually exclusive.

Myself and others I know have extensive experience with AlgoTerminal but that is likely not the best option for you if you have a smaller account and need to keep your monthly software/data fees low. I am currently working with a non-programmer and I got tired of making updates to his strategies so I built a "no-code" add-on where he could configure the strategies himself without writing code. So in your case, you really should seek to find someone who can offer some sort package that you could use in TradeStation where you are writing minimal code. This is assuming you are absolutely determined to do algo trading. My advise to any retail traders who want to get into algo trading is to don't do it. Almost everyone underestimates the time, cost and effort that is involved.

Am I right in thinking you are suggesting that you cannot eventually be running automated strategies without being able to code?

What I am saying is if you want to go the automated route and do not know how to code, you really need some way to construct strategies with writing a minimal amount of code. Some platforms have GUIs built into them for that and in my case, I build an add-on where users can create their own strategies via a config file...there might be something similar for TradeStation.

Maybe you can reach out to them? I am sure they would love to customize any learning or provide any custom services you seek, and they can actually tell you how much they will charge you.
