Trader's World Tour

Very interesting thread. As a fan of travelling it certainly caught my attention. Don't know if the OP has seen this book but it is certainly on topic.

There is a lot of inspiration that can be taken from Jim Rogers, and his multiple world tours definitely speak to the spirit of this thread. I attended a presentation by Rogers that he gave not long after after completing that last journey. His eyes glistened while he told us a few stories about his experiences. He was really hammering on his excitement about the prospects for China and commodities (this was five years ago, I wish his excitement was more contagious to me). I recommend the audio version of this book, even though it's abridged, it's great to hear it in Jim's voice.

Here's what I would like to do: get a good group of guys on the same wavelength and with a similar idea on the standard of living we want to live at.

Work out a rough itinerary of places to visit, but keep the whole thing fairly open. Aim to spend 1-3 months per city depending on how we like it. Travelling every week would get expensive, not to mention missed time trading while in transit. I would like to have time to really get to know the city I'm in, and as I'll be working won't be able to see everything in a week like a tourist would.

Rent fully furnished apartments with good broadband, a room each and set up trading in the lounge room. If you look at www.sublet.com and www.vrbo.com there are a lot of places that are quite reasonably priced.

Have a policy with regards to trading so everyone feels comfortable. Some guys are secretive about their strategy and won't walk to talk shop at all, others will be more open. We need the right mix of guys or a good approach so our individual trading is not affected by being with others.

The big upside will be having mates to go out for drinks with, meet the locals, explore the cities, and of course makes it safer not travelling alone.

I won't be ready to do this until later in the year, but think plenty of time is needed for interested parties on the Trader's World Tour to get to know each other first.

Some kind of blog of the whole thing could make for interesting reading.

DWade, how does this sound to you?

This sounds about like what I had in mind. Renting large furnished apartments or houses would work well, and if someone wanted to trade privately he could do so in his bedroom instead of the living/trading room. Four-eight weeks weeks in a city sounds about right. I envision the shorter stays in cities that are close by other smaller but interesting cities, in Europe let's say. Little weekend excursion will work nicely too.

The hosting idea that Maverick74 mentioned sounds like it could be great part of the plan too, except the local trader(s) could be more of an ambassador than a host. People who would be willing to show us around as only a local could, and talk shop too.

I've thought about this a lot. I think the idea of taking a year and travelling the world while trading would make for an interesting blog...book...documentary...etc.

I've had the idea of having traders on ET putting their names on a list and hosting a travelling ET Trader. The deal would work that you would be able to stay with ET traders in other countries and also host them in your country. It would be a fun way to travel and possibly dangerous knowing some of the crazies on this board. LOL. I think we have people on this board from just about every desirable country in the world, why not. This way it would kind of take the desolation out of the travelling alone thing.

Plus imagine what you could learn trading wise!!!!

I love Idea that is why i started a similar thread last week.

Hey Bogan, I'm in Brissie. Later in year is when I'm thinking too.

Local ambassador idea sounds great. Maybe also look to do longer term stays in the cheaper cities (Buenos Aires, Prague, etc) and shorter ones in the expensive cities (Tokyo, London, etc) to keep costs down.

Zen,

my good mate from Tokyo just lifted a penthouse in Buenos Aires so that could be a start. I lived for 14 years in london so have a massive base of contacts over there as well
