traders who are deeply religious

Jesus gives us a few examples of how one can have eternal life in the bible. I counted about 4 one time when I searched.

John chapter 6 starting around the 50s is one of my favorites as it is very hard to believe. The crowds walked away and the Jews walked away and I would say modern day protestants have walked away. (even about half the Roman Catholics and some of the Orthodox walk away.) Yet it is pretty much a confirmed teaching by Paul in his letter to the Corinthians.

While John Chapter is very hard to believe it is not nearly as hard to do as say living up to the sermon on the mount or the passage just quoted.

Well kelly, this is the only place in the bible where jesus was asked a specific question about what it takes to enter heaven. jesus did not say "i give you this advice but you can interpret it as you see fit". he also did not say "just believe in me" or "just have faith" as paul later changed the message to say.
it is clear he meant to do the hard work of helping those in need. most christians resist this message today because it means hard work. christians today like to go to some fancy new church building and hear some preacher say you will be fine if you do gods work(give money to the church)and just believe. then they can throw a couple of bucks in the offering plate and be home in time to watch the football game sunday afternoon.

This is exactly the reason why I despise so much those who 'practice' religion: they believe they have not to worry if they sin because all they need is praying "atto di dolore" and they will be forgiven. I mean, is it better to repent by doing some good or by chanting mumbo jumbo for 20min?

My personal view/ guess has been Jesus during his years was, and today still is, the representative of unconventional thinking, free/ questioning mind, scientific approach, logical debating, spirit-based believing instead of books-based, reasons-based teaching/ faith instead of rules-based, criticising religions/ hypocrites, demolishing classes, helping/ strengthening the poors (in many different aspects - physical/ mental/ religious/ spiritual/ etc.), ...

His way and teaching challenged in his age and challenges today the religious and political leaders and authorities. That was one of the causes costing His life which cultivates a new way and leads us to a new life.

That might be challenges and contrary to some questionable claims by certain christians, in the past and also nowadays, who tell about christians cannot do this, and must do that, according to their conservative views/ interpretations based on books.

having read the Book, i tend to agree with you on most points.

several of my best friends are hard core atheists, yet we maintain respect for each other....... unlike what i see on this board.

That might be good for us to know we are not better than anyone else. :) :D

Religion is a crutch. It's used to keep the masses in check and to give them hope.

I have a friend who's religious, I am 100% non religious. We were discussing the topic. To keep the story short, I was told that I was going to hell because I did not believe. Well, after I heard that, I seriously doubted my friendship with that person. How can one argue with such logic. You can't.

Godspeed and Good trading.

Most people who have a belief on an issue usually act as the Judge, Jury, and the Prosecutor on the issue.
I like to see myself as the Scientist, Lab, and the Subject...trail and error, experience is the best teacher.

Don't forget that those who initiated and insisted killing Jesus were "practicing" believers of God. :D

If you allow yourself to be turned off GOD or Jesus Christ because of anything that any man says or does then ... you will have been tricked.

The Bible is an excellent book inspired by GOD and it's my opinion that it will be different for everyone, as that is his will.

GOD himself wrote 10 laws and they stand exactly the same today as they did the day HE wrote them.

They are the ABSOLUTES and are not subjective.

See guys. This is the type of person with serious mental health issues.

The bible is something that I use to wipe my ass with. It is not the word of god. You have it exactly backwards, and you also need to go read the definitions of subjective and objective.

Jesus ...

The new testament about Jesus, particularly regarding hypocrites, is worth reading. Don't miss it. :D

Perhaps one day you will believe Jesus, after learning more about Him. :)
