I am using a ducted 15 blade fan. Which I've already constructed. And I 'll be boosting the engine to 450HP.
Giving me a projected power loading of around 4 lbs/HP. Well within the range of RC ducted fans. Differences in power loading of course being the biggest reason the RC guys get their DF's to perform as opposed to full scale attempts, up to this point.

Damn you Lucrum! I think I am going to take the plunge and at least take a couple Sonex classes this coming year, and see if I feel I have the knowledge and dedication. I have a local Aztec for a reasonable price that would allow me to carry family and bags, and a place I trust selling it. The reality is I could afford it, but the majority of my flying would be fun instead of family carrying. The Sonex fits that category, and it is local for those time when I need help personally as opposed to phone only.
Don't know where you live, but I'd be willing to learn and help if you are in the area of Wisconsin.

Neat.
I'm finding that it's good to have a hobby.
Fun to make money, enjoy the challenge of the market, but got
to have some down time, or the stress begins to cloud judgement.
Rc helis got out and took a break, getting back into them.
Recently started planes, built a big scratchbuild.
Now. getting a bug for an ultralight.
Thanks whoever posted that Sonex link. $1500 is a steal, for
something you need to finish.
I like welding, just recerted to AWS 4G 5G.
got my own machine, and going to start practicing TIG soon.

What I said on other thread.
Turn TV off, and get back to DOING stuff !
 
I've actually started doing storage auctions in my spare time. Guess you can call it a hobby cause it's fun to me.

Aside from that, Brazilian Jiujitsu and Video games. But really, my preferred hobby is sleep, when I can get it.

Canton, GA about an hour north of Atlanta.

I think the Sonex is mostly aluminum. Though I've never really looked closely at them. Except for the gear and engine mount mine will be mostly wood. Well except for the wing spar caps and shear web.
I'm now planning on carbon and fiberglass for those parts.
