Traders' Coach (Woman)

Quote from chessman:

The second-most-influential psychotherapist of the twentieth century, by the reckoning of the American Psychological Association, turned ninety last month. His name is Albert Ellis, and, in case you didn’t know, he is the founder of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, or REBT, and the author of more than seventy books, including “Sex Without Guilt,” “Sex and the Liberated Man,” “The Case for Promiscuity,”

my opinion of this issue, and i admit it is fluid (opinion), is that the lack of ability to handle real FREEDOM is one of the primary stumbling blocks to successful trading. allow me to explain, all thru one's life, they are generally told what to do and they follow directions--from nursery school thru grad school one is following someone elses directive. this continues thru out the average person's life into their career, family, etc. most follow directions and have limited FREEDOM of choice outside of parameters, however wide those parameters.

trading provides real FREEDOM and most people can not handle this FREEDOM therefore they self destruct. this self destruction is a defense mechanism to avoid real FREEDOM. people crave this FREEDOM yet most are petrified of it, when they have it and do not know how to handle it.

the key is being able to handle the freedom trading provides by trusting yourself without needing directive.

Actually, I first became acquainted with his work about twenty years ago when a friend (clinical) lent me a copy of A New Guide to Rational Living (updated a few years back). But given the level of irrationality at which Americans hold sex and sexual behavior, I'm not surprised at the number of books he's written on the subject.

gann,

i am speaking here more of the freedom of the individual to make their own decisons without ANY directive, or by choosing to follow directive or not at any time. people, in general, are creatures of habit who follow. trading provides an opportunity to break out of this mold, however most can't handle the freedom. hence the rise of the guru trading culture.

That definitely makes sense, your "freedom " post was excellent.

I'd really like to answer to this but I have a problem grasping your nuiance of the term "directive" but...

Everyone and every action is based on some degree of "directive". For example, when you start trading, your directives are based on some social basis of money or winner/loser mentality. But this is something that has to be molded out of to a different degree, like trading well based on the person's "new directive".

"Real" FREEDOM does not exist in all planes of reality. Everything has it's boundaries, as long as it exists. It's a matter of which "directive" plane, you would place yourself in.

Maybe we can talk about this on some other occasion before we get into a "Chit Chat" kinda thread of what FREEDOM is....

Those interested in the subject would enjoy Douglas' first book since, depending on the focus, both you and surf are correct.

yes, i agree. when i said directive, i should have clarified exactly what i meant--- directive from another, following orders type of directive. not the directive gann is speaking of.

Real Freedom exists . Unfortunately, it only lasts till reality , with all kinds of boundaries, sets in.
