Trader P/L 2014

Traded ES, NQ, NG today.

Been trading only sporadically the last couple of weeks, and probably will continue that way until April - chasing the the fully auto dream... "its a process" !

Have still been keeping an eye on this thread though, glad to see some other guys wading in.

Keep at it Chuck !!

Incidentally, still waiting for delivery of new laptop, so traded the NQs from netbook today (working out of office in coffee shop). According to NinjaTrader.com the minimum spec is 2GB ram, and IB suggest 4GB.... the Dell 1012 I still use only has 1GB, go figure !

Frustration levels are very high right now for me. I've been having so many of my trades come back on me lately. I'm taking the rest of the day off. I didn't make anything today, but it's not negative.

I've been doing this a long time now... and let me tell you something, current stock market action is every bit as challenging and difficult as I have ever seen at any time in my career. The important thing is to maintain discipline, muster every ounce of patience you possibly can, and know that easier market conditions will grace our presence in the future.

All week long stock indexes were chopped and churned sideways more than not. But today played out in typical non-farm Friday fashion: wide swings early, narrowing into a wedge as the day wears on. Hit the Russell for +10.1 points per contract on two shorts and shut it down. A third 5+ point short trade signaled and completed after my exit, but greed never pays in the end. We left that for the second shift behind us.

I recently swore off trading the TF again, until some traders I know encouraged me to look at things from a slightly different angle. That I did, and I'm glad I did. You're never too old or too experienced to learn in this profession... the longer I'm at it, the more open-minded I try real hard to become

I'm finished. I have some things to get done today. Wow. Another non-losing day. I'm just trying to stop the bleeding before I start heading back in the right direction.

Personally I think you should start your own journal since you are new. That way people can comment and perhaps give positive or negative feedback. All in all, it could help you. You can post charts of your trades (entries and exits) and people can provide their two cents worth. Advice that you can take or leave. This thread is about P/L and that's fine but it's not going to help you trade. Most people that post here are veteran traders that consistent post gains over time.

I started trading 3 years ago and would get schooled left and right by the market. The majority of new traders will not be profitable unless they have a mentor or an edge but then again that edge is what everyone is seeking and those that do have it would be reluctant to give it up since they've paid the price to get it. You talk a lot about getting chopped up. The market can be choppy and part of that is to get rid of the weak traders. I would use multiple time frames to get a bigger and better picture of what's going on. The longer the time period on the chart, the more powerful in terms of price action. This is actually good advice that poster RiffRaff gave me on my journal long ago. Although we went at it for a while years ago, he is on many accounts correct albeit a bit rude in the way he conveys them. Good luck.

I traded at times for years from a 1GB notebook, no problems with NT flow in that regard. Wired connections from the modem or router were solid enough for retail use... but wireless connections lag badly. Not a real problem for me, my entries are either prestaged pullbacks or breakouts, or both in sequence. But anyone who uses instant or especially market orders to fill are behind real price by a second or three. Sounds like you are doing fine, so no worries either way :)

Things definitely didn't work well today. Thanks to everyone for the support and feedback. I'll hang in there.

austinp,

Thanks for posting your TF P/L on Friday. I know you trade a few different products and it seems like you trade everyday. It is difficult to get an idea of your overall performance when postings only show up every now and then. I believe you could be a valuable contributor to this thread if you consistently posted your total P/L on a daily or weekly basis.

Swing trade over the weekend.

Forgot to grab screenshot of blotter this afternoon and apparently can't get it anymore..

ok... let's do that :)

yesterday, TF trades. Another choppy wedge-session, moderate drawdown early on the short/long/short side until the lone morning dip finally caught wind. Shutdown and done before noon, because market action was dead. imo we will see a large-range trend session soon, this week. The weeks' long sideways churn here into contracted markets is the dry tinder poised for a fire. Only thing unknown for now is what will be the proverbial spark for ignition.
