Trader P/L 2014

CL: (-12 cents)
ZS: (-5 cents)
TF: +2.9 points
ES: +12.00 points

Should have just held ES & TF initial shorts from opening highs, and it would have been a much easier morning. Staccato pace to all tapes today... surge and congest, surge and congest. Final ES short sequence took me to par from slight draw for the morning, then CL short sequence offered net gains and I graciously accepted the gift :)

Couldn't get my head around trading today.

Negative net result from forays into NG and CL earlier in the day offset by gains from the bounce off the lows in ES...

Occurs to me that now that TOS is part of TD Ameritrade, I can just use their website for this thread, as they post the net P&L (minus commish). So for today:

VIX curve fell sharply across the board today, and some more Jan effect small caps came through today. TGT even managed to go down, so my short there made a little money. That position is like a hangnail, very annoying.
Increased my hedges today, which I always do on good days like today. They'll likely stay in place til Friday's employment report.

+3pts and -1pt in this morning's ES gap & no-range tape could not overcome Day Two of no-range chop in CL and ZS.

CL remains welded to the years' long 94 magnet exactly as we figured it would.

When price action sucks and nothing in any chart goes anywhere, stop trading. Toss the towel. Don't fight dead markets, don't dig big holes in your account. Fighting dead markets never pays in the end. It always costs market-fighter's money. There is no ego-boosting prize for "win every day no matter what, to be right."

When price action sucks, shut her down. Walk away and busy yourself in constructive fashion elsewhere. Tomorrow is a completely different day

+132 net

It was a good day, but I'm feeling disgruntled. I missed the entry on a trade that would have made this a huge day. Next, one of my trades made a fast, big move and came to within cents of my target and then quickly dropped back. I still made a good profit on it, but it was frustrating. Since then, I've slowly been bleeding money back, so I'm done for the day.

Same as yesterday, VIX curve generally went down. Put on more hedges, since there is a lower limit to this of course.
Took some profits in the Jan effect pee wees, closed out TGT for a loss (good riddance!!!).

+$265.74

Dug myself out of an early Euro numpty trade to come out on top overall. Stopped out early by 2 ticks on a CL trade that could have made a very good day.
