Trader P/L 2014

I'm very disappointed to have lost today. I thought I positioned myself well to have a good day, but despite the directional market almost all my positions fizzled.

Whipsawed again by the S&P this morning, turned what should have been a good day into just a mediocre one. Very annoying. I think I'm going to avoid trying to hedge with that index. Even VXX would be better, I think.
OK, I exaggerate, but maybe only a little....

Another mediocre day. Front of the curve fell off more than the back, as is usual when decompressing from a scare like that EM one we just went through.
On the plus side, I kept to my mighty oath not to touch the S&P. So far, that resolution has lasted all of one trading session.
I doubt it'll last three in a row though.

It was a frustrating day, again. I had a lot of trades just fizzle out.

Do you have a chart of your trades? Just curious what you're doing. You remind me of when I started. I did a ton of trades, some for +2 literally even. Quantity does not equal Quality. You need to focus on searching for a quality setup. If the criteria is not there, don't take it.

High quantity of trades for small sums are not the way to go. Trust me, I tried it. Although I didn't minimize my losses for the day to -100, which made it worse. I ended up having a -33% draw down on my account my first year.

nice to see guys posting blotters so far this yr.

as i said i would be busy (moving brokers and living a little more outside trading).

had myself the biggest DD in 2 yrs (about 8%) since recovered to +1% for year.

usually i am net long volatility strongly; but in january vix expiration i got caught under investing long vol just as the selloff began with too much short vol already on books. this was 2nd time in 2 yrs i broke one of my rules and each time it cost me...< lesson learned.

my advantage account is up 9% ytd as i was very long vol

anyway i am posting my IB YTD earnings. the yr started out good, took 8% DD, and now i am recovered to +1% on yr so far.

see attached IB ytd

Traded NG.

Let myself get chopped up and did not stop trading after my voluntary maximum allowed loss for the day ($1K) was exceeded.

Expensive lesson? No, just expensive... should know better by now.

No blotter, "Realized Profit" does not seem to show in trade summary window for some reason.

I've had an unprecedented run of profitable days, so overdue some losses at some point...
... oh yeah.
