Trader P/L 2013

Quote from RXIS:

Jan 22 $300 realized but holding onto overnight losing trade.

Jan 23 -$6,055.77
There goes nearly all of my Jan profits so far.
This is what happens when size is increased and a losing trade is held onto. So what happened? Improper management of self.

1. FATIGUE. Not unusual for me to stay up for 24 hours after working 3 nights especially if I had an easier work load.
This time, I worked 4 nights since we had bank holiday on Monday and then started trading in the morning. Mental clarity simply wasn't there.

2. Stress of MOUNTING PRESSURE from a spouse who wants to quit working full time and wants a new car (lowest option is $65k). Responsible for big house expenses such as mortgage, etc.

3. $10K PROFIT GOAL. This one was a minor issue. I wanted to close the month of January with $10k profit before taxes.

I was up $600, enough for me to steadily attain my goal.
I should have closed and went to bed. Instead, I started recklessly gambling with increased size.

If fatigue was attended to, I could have managed the pressure that I have been feeling.

| Disgraced.

Been there. Take time if you have to. Need that discipline 100%. For me, every time, those types of losses were from removing my stops and/or adding to losers. hurts to be consistent 4 days out of the week and blow it in one!

I had a good losing streak going this morning and then one good winner was able to clean it all up. I wasn't trying to end positive $1, but that's how I ended up after my exit. I need to get some work done, so I'm calling it a day. It's pretty choppy out there anyways.

+1

+9k ish on attached for 1/23 and 1/24.

clearing shows a sub account where i played around w/ 480/510/540 short fly on aapl earnings. i have to admit, i learned that one from the vix journal here and figured i try it on aapl for earnings. wanted to see how the big boys trade (rally and sellingindex vol, talkin to u!)

today finished about + 2k, but no clearing shot til monday. could have been a very decent day, but i stepped in front of the NFLX freight train. very unlike me to counter trend something like that, but it happens. would have made it out w/o such a hefty loss if i held the 160 puts i was selling against my short 1.80-2.00. regardless, it was a dumb trade and i took my medicine.

trying to be slightly more creative with my trading this year, and can say i actually have learned a thing or two from some of these journals.

if anyone likes to share little bits about what's going into their numbers, it might be helpful for everyone. after the fact analysis isn't going to give away any 'edge' as the when is more important than the why.

I am friends with both of those you mention and neither trade equity flies.

i was referring to the fly itself, not the equity fly...i dont usually do anything that creative w/ options, which is what i was referring to.

i have followed some of your threads and posts. you seem to always take EVERYTHING personally, atticus. lighten up a bit. i'm not claiming to be 'better than you,' just to create an environment where everyone can learn a little bit from each other and do better.

One has nothing to do with the other. It's not personal. It's akin to referring to a bond trade when they're trading FX. A VIX fly is a term-structure trade in futures and an equity fly is a vertical.

Dude, I wasn't mentioned. Better than me?

'Better than you' is on your bio, it was a joke. See what I mean?

Although, I was not trading vix term structure, I was trading an increase in volatility on an equity instrument. I don't think sellingindexvol nor rally would take issue with me saying I picked up something from them and applied it to my own trading.

I guess I'll just be quiet now.

Perhaps, you have taught me something again. Like I said, I'm new to certain option strategies. Maybe, I'll be thanking you for a trade idea in the future...unless you have problem with that in advance.

Yeah, sure you can thank me as long as it's relevant.
