TRADE ALERT - Buy RIMM Oct 2008 105.00 calls

Quote from forex-forex:

Thanks Optioncrotch .... I plan on recovering lost funds with a similar AAPL trade. Will keep ET posted.

You can call me Optioncrotch all you want, I did not make a silly bet and brag about it. I will remember to keep useful advice to myself next time.

Quote from Epiphany:

You picked up calls right before earnings on a high flying stock.

Even if you had made money, this is not trading, this is gambling.

If you are going to continue gambling, you are better off just closing your account and donating all of it to charity. You help a good cause and you get tax deductions.

Dude. Here's an epiphany:

Our existence is based on 'gambling'.

It's all ODDS.

Much of our conscious brain function involves calculating risk. If you think trading is not gambling think again. So what if it had a binary outcome? Just a different r/r profile compared to the morally superior trading.

Can you examine your 5 most recent trades and show they weren't 'gambles'? I didn't think so.

I've seen the above post many times before and the thought process seems utterly transparent.

This thread is a great example of how buying can be very risky.
There's been thousands of pages spent on the dangers of selling. Yet if the OP had risked $10k by selling naked puts (would have been 1 contract), FF would have been down less than $300 vs the actual loss of $10k.
It's not about selling or buying, it's all about the leverage.

the stock gapped down $25, what do you expect. If you are making a directional long play, you are fucked no matter what your trade is.

Let's first clearly define our terms.

'Gambling' is negative expectancy.

Thus if you a fish, poker is gambling. Whereas if you are professional poker player, poker is NOT gambling, since you have positive expectancy.

In this situation, the OP has done absolutely no fundamental research regarding the earnings of RIMM. Therefore he is gambling. He has no edge. He deserves to lose.

good post , 500
OP’s position aside, RIMM’s long call (or put) into the earnings had a better than 1:1 risk reword ratio

False. It's a bear market. There is a lot of fear EVERYWHERE. Stocks don't go up on fear. The risk profile is NOT good for a reverse market climate trade.

For christ's sake, he was hoping for an earnings surprise at the beginning of a Bear Market. WTF.

Bulls got their run from 2003 - 2007. Now its the Bears turn.

Quote from 1Reason:

Very sorry about your loss.

I hope that your able to gain some knowledge from it and that experience will help you not only make it back but more.

don't feel sorry for this guy... he doesn't deserve sympathy.

i used to feel sorry for this guy. i'm a directional player, myself, and have struggled with my own bad picks.

but this guy is a jerk and a jackass and deserves to lose for maligning optioncoach, one of the most helpful people here on ET who also happens to have extensive knowledge of options.

I do not expect or want "sympathy' from anyone.
