Tower Position

Is there any reason why you could not lay your tower on it's side as opposed to standing it vertically? I understand that the DVD player might be somewhat more difficult to use. But aside from that, would there be any technical issue that would arise from positioning a tower horizontally on it's side?

like you said, you might have issues with using optical drives but other than that there shouldn't be a problem...

no problems whatsoever.

and if you look closely at your dvd/crdom drive, one side should have a little bit of a "lip" on it designed to keep the cd in place while the door opens and closes which will help you determine which side to lay it on
